Raymond ‘DJ Freez’ Rowe tries to withdraw his guilty plea to the rape and murder of Christy Mirack in 1992

Raymond Charles Rowe pleaded guilty in 2019 to the rape and murder of East Lampeter Township teacher Christy Mirack in 1992. Now the former DJ wants a new trial. Rowe, better known as “DJ Freez”, testified in Lancaster County Court Thursday to oppose his original guilty plea and seek a new trial and more DNA tested evidence. Officials say the evidence includes the kitchen cutting board that Mirack was beaten with, a nearby toaster, and the sixth-grade teacher’s sweater. Rowe is now testifying that he had sex with the Miracks after they met at the Chameleon Club in downtown Lancaster. The 52-year-old admits to having sex with Mirack the day she was killed, but claims someone else killed her later that day. Today, prosecutors asked Rowe if he lied when he pleaded guilty in January 2019, Rowe said “yes”. He told Lancaster County Judge Dennis Reinaker that his previous lawyers did not represent him well. Rowe now has a new lawyer from Philadelphia and is due to return to court next Thursday. He is serving a life without the possibility of parole for the murder of Christy Mirack.
