No. 1 player of the 2023 promotion, DJ Wagner has great performances, updates recruitment

The New Jersey high school season opened last night in a thriller starring Camden and Roselle Catholic. As the # 1 player in the class of 2023, 6-foot-3 combo guard DJ Wagner had a big scoring performance to start the season. As far as recruiting Wagner goes, he has made visits to Kentucky, Memphis, Villanova, and Temple with no further visits in mind.

Wagner updated his recruiting with 247Sports.

Kentucky: “It was really a great and fun experience. The atmosphere was crazy, I was able to go with my teammate Mackenzie Mgbako and that my boy there, I’m happy for him and proud of him he worked. We took a tour of the campus, went to Big Blue Nation, so it was a really fun experience.

Memphis: “It’s going pretty well, Coach Penny is a cool and good guy. I really had a great time during my visit. With them I like the way they play hard and get there. They are able to run and have some free space in this offense.

Villanova: “My visit was great, coach Jay is a good guy. He gave me a tour of the campus and the school is great. They do a really good job there and they have a pretty good team every year.

For now, it looks like the five-star 2023 will consider the college route in depth while leaving all options open on the table.

247Sports National Basketball director Eric Bossi provided a scout report for Wagner.

“Wagner started his career as the top ranked player in the class of 2023 and comes from a family with strong basketball bloodlines. Basically, he’s a combined guard specializing in filling. Although not an overwhelming athlete, Wagner is very skillful and quite intelligent in his score. It reaches the edge, has an array of floats, pull-ups and can pull far from the depths.
